BOOM MUSIC AWARDS' Best Newcoming Solo Artist,
AVA REYNA, has taken over and brought out the ultimate anarchist inside. With this award under her belt, she's unstoppable. In a recent interview,
AVA talks to
ANDREW BAILEY about gigs, musical influences and drunken escapades.
Best Newcoming Solo Artist, how's that affected your life?
It's a lot more frantic, for sure. Hard to keep up with really.
What made you write your latest track, "Life On Fire"?
The material used fo my records comes from everyday life, just taken to the extreme. It's my life, exaggerating the parts that are mot important to me. "Life On Fire" was origionally about having a mental life with lots of things going on. Then I added my personality to it.
How would you describe your personality?
Crazy. Spontaneous. Sociable. Individual. Rebellious. Sarcastic. Anarchist. Some people say I'm loud and obnoxious.
Who are your musical influences?
Classic ledgends like Killing Joke, Sex Pistols and I respect and idolise Debbie Harry from Blondie. She's awesome and she has done so well for herself.
What did you think about Debbie Harry herself awarding you onstage?
It was surreal. A truely unforgettable experience. I'll be name dropping that night for years to come. It'd be great if we could collaborate.
You have done a few gigs now. What's it like being up there?
Absolutely mental. Loving it though. Just a sea of crazy popl just likemyself jumping around getting right into the music. The feeling of drums and guitar riffs ringing through my ears makes me feel at home.
Do you have any special treatment in your trailor before you go on?
I don't askfor much. I'm satisfied with a bowl of coco pops and my Sex Pistols CD.
Very Rock n' Roll...
It really is.
Highlight of your year?
Got to be a few months ago. I was out with a few guys and things got wild. The bar got trashed, meaning we got thrown out of the joint. As we were walkin down the street an old lady stopped us to complain about "young people today". Would have been a great conversation I'm sure, if we could actually hear her, or if we even cared.
What's next on your plans?
Not sure, I'm gonna take life as it comes. I'm grateful for even getting this far.
